Things to listen to and/ or read
Well this may be the post that is never published because if it sounds as self absorbed and maudlin as I feel I promise that I won't inflict it on you. I confess to feeling a teeny bit beleaguered. So far my sabbatical has looked much more like sick leave! Vertigo was followed hot on the heels by a very nasty dose of COVID and I am still getting over that. Day 15 and still experiencing symptoms. But that's enough of that! Please.Anyway...just a few thoughts (censoring out the woe-is-me-self-absorbed ones because, let's face it....they are BORING!!!) A darling friend lent me The Girl with The Louding Voice by Abi Daré. Fabulous read. The Marginalian is always great...In my most beleaguered moments I found myself nodding as I read this post. And yet...truth be told...are ten days in the granny flat anything like one year of solitude? No. As Sarton writes, Nothing stays the same for long, not even pain, psychic pain. Sit it out. Let it all pass. Let it go. And she is right! Moving on....I didn't feel like reading much at my worst but I enjoyed listening (#lovemycochlearimplant) to various things and Conversations always delivers the goods. This particular episode led me down a fascinating rabbit hole and, dear reader, I bought the book. When I left school I wanted to be either an anthropologist, anthropologist or actor. The yearnings still run deep. And I listened to a lot of an old favourite Idiot Prayer (Nick Cave) and a new discovery, Jesse Buckley and Bernard Butler after reading this review.So...not too much self pity and hopefully some interesting links for you to follow. I had to cancel my Nature Art Lab class due to the aforementioned COVID but will be doing it with bells on in September. Come and join me!!! I am not doing much teaching at the moment so this is one of the few opportunities! You will have fun! A text I received after a class this week absolutely made my day:Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon. You are so generous with your time and skill. I love all your classes, but this one really put a big smile on my face after a bleak July. And that put a HUGE smile on my face!!! Thanks KA!
