Frequently Asked Questions

What is polymer clay and how do I look after my jewellery?

Polymer clay is a synthetic modelling material that has been used by artists for the several decades. When it is raw, polymer clay is soft and pliable and you can stamp it, texture it, mix it with other pigments and materials and blend it to create new colours.  It becomes hard when cured which can be done in an ordinary oven at relatively low temperatures. After curing it can be carved, scratched, sanded, painted, polished and further altered.  While it comes in a range of colours, I choose to mainly use hand mixed colours created from a primary palette. You can learn a little about my colour mixing journey here. My environmental manifesto (polymer IS a plastic) can be found here.

Jewellery made from polymer is durable, fade-resistant and water-proof. Use your common sense and give your lovingly hand-made jewellery the respect it deserves. Polymer can be cleaned using a soft cloth and warm soapy water if required. Rubbing with a rough towel will restore the shine on a previously polished piece if it has dulled. Do not store cured polymer jewellery with uncured clay. Do not leave exposed to high temperatures or sunlight and do not store in a plastic bag in humid conditions. Some pigments may fade over time. Polymer may react to oil based mosquito repellent, some alcohol products and perfume. Ask me how I know!

Do you do commissions, bespoke orders and custom orders?

Sometimes! Email me at wendy@afterthemonsoon.com to discuss!

What are your posts, hooks and hoops made from?

I always use surgical grade stainless steel, silver or titanium for my findings. All are suitable for sensitive ears! I am a fellow sufferer and would not sell anything I can’t wear!

I don’t have pierced ears. Can you convert to clip ons?

Sometimes. Drop me and line and let’s talk!

What are the shipping arrangements?

With the exception of bespoke commissions, all packages are shipped by Australia Post within 5-10 days of purchase unless otherwise discussed. An Express Post option is available for selection in Australia only.

What is the returns policy?

For hygiene reasons I am unable to accept exchanges or returns if you change your mind about earrings. If there is a problem/ fault on receipt of your item, please email me to discuss a repair or a return. Please note that some of my work incorporates up-cycled and found objects. It is perfectly imperfect. I am a fan of asymmetry and no two pieces are the same. I will not be able to replicate pieces and each item is unique.

What payment is accepted?

I accept all major credit cards and PayPal.
