Events-rain events, class events and necklace events

It has been an interesting and busy week or so.  We have heard a lot from meteorologists about rain events. Out here at "the Hill" we have had very surprising weather.  Here we are at the Outback's edge and in the tail end of Summer, and I am sitting in a fleece jumper and wondering when the rain will stop.  We've had half our annual rainfall in the past two days. Broken Hill ain't geared up for rain and the roads rapidly become raging torrents of red churning water.  If the rain stops, the water levels drops quickly but the rain hasn't stopped for long.  In a brief respite from the rain I walked back from an appointment and I had to roll my trousers above knee level, remove my shoes and walk carefully through rushing waters containing leaf debris and gutter content!  All the unsealed roads out of town are closed and while we are not facing evacuation or any of the problems others in Cooma and other areas face, this experience really helps me to sympathise with the people who are. On the positive side, this rain is filling the Menindee lakes (our water supply) and giving my turmeric and ginger plants a good settling in!

The class on Saturday was lots of fun and it was a special delight to have Ariana who travelled all the way from Adelaide!  I shared with the group how I got inspiration for the colours in their pendants.  Some of you may know that I adore the landscape of Mustang and Kagbeni in Nepal.  The colours are magnificently captured in the art of Robert Powell in Earth Door, Sky Door and those were the colours I used in the pendants.  All the class members made and polished and assembled at least one pendant and had plenty of beads for making earrings, necklaces and bracelets at home.  Not to mention lots of canes.  I heard that a couple wore their creations out that night!

On the necklace front, here is necklace # 8 (last week's!  I meant to post this on Friday).  It is similar to one I made a while ago and incorporates a few of my favourite components: Tibetan yak bone rosary beads, turquoise, silver and ivory.I will post this week's necklace (#9) tomorrow. Strap yourself down.
